Starting At The Front

I’ve been debating where to start on my photo tour of the new house. Should I start inside and show you all the rooms? Or should I start outside and show you all the land? Tough decision, since it’s all wonderful! 😉

So, after much thought and tossing and turning last night (actually, it was our puppy that kept me awake all night, not this 😉 ) I decided to start outside and work my way in.

So, with no further ado, here is my new home, my front yard and front gardens!

The View From The Road

The house actually sits on top of a knoll which is a bit hard to see in this picture. It gives us a wonderful view of everything around us.

The View From The Porch

In the morning I’m going to be able to sit on my front porch with my coffee, or tea after dinner. This is the view from there and from my kitchen. Isn’t it gorgeous?

The Front Gardens

This garden is at the front of my house. As you can see, the lillies have taken over! As soon as I get a chance, I’m taking a shovel to all the gardens at the front of the house and digging out the extra flowers. I’ll be sure to have before and after photo’s to show.

More overgrown gardens at the front of the house. This time, it’s ferns that have taken over! I do like the ferns, so I’ll be keeping at least some of them.

I think these are Day Lillies, but I’m not exactly sure. Whatever they are, there are too many and some of them are coming out! What out gardens, here I come!

There are also two very shaggy looking bushes in the front yard. They just need a good trimming and shaping, though. So, as you can see, I have my work cut out for me with just these three gardens. I have more to show over the next few days.

Thanks for stopping by!

The First Moving Injury

And of course, it had to be me!

I was moving my daughters bookshelf this morning and forgot to take out the shelves. So, of course when I tipped it forward, out it came, right on my big toe. Ouch!

I know, it doesn’t look too bad in the pic, but it’s really purple now! Honest! 😉

It’s Almost Here!

Moving day is almost here! I can’t wait to be living at my new homestead all the time. It’s almost a form of torture to know that it’s just sitting there waiting for me when I have to keep coming back to this house.

Last night a very strong storm moved through around dinner time. I don’t know if it hit out at the new house or not, but I’m going out today to see if there was any damage done out there. Hopefully not, but we’ll deal with whatever happens of course.

I’ll mostly be unpacking today, I think. I will of course take a load of boxes out with me, but I want to spend some time getting what I have out there now organized somewhat for when we get the rest of our things out there on Thursday. That’s only two days away!

I’m also going to tackle the front garden I think today if I have time. I’ll take before and after photo’s too. It’s quite the mess right now, but boy is it going to look great when I’m done with it! There are little flower gardens all over the place. There are two along the front of the porch, one along the rest of the front of the house, one along the side of the house, one along the back wall, one along the front of the back porch, three in the yard and one along the front of the chicken coop. And every last one of them is overgrown with weeds, so it’s going to be quite the chore to get them all cleaned up. I can see it in my head though how wonderful they’re all going to look when I’m done. I need to do some research to see what kind of flowers would have been used in the time period the house was built. Mind you, I don’t think that flower gardens were a main concern at that time, though.

I tell you, this place is going to look fabulous when we’re done!

I Lied – No Pics.

Well, I lied. I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures yesterday. We were so busy moving things that by the time I thought of it, the sun was going down and the light wasn’t good at all.

We did get a lot of boxes and loose things moved though. This house is starting to look empty, while the new house is starting to look like home.

After we moved the last load, I spent about 2 hours in my kitchen unpacking and organizing. I love my windowed cupboards. They make even my mismatched dishes look great. 😉 I am also absolutely in LOVE with my country sink. It’s absolutely perfect. I love, love, love it! I can’t wait to get some pictures of it to show.

The kids spent a lot of time in their rooms getting things decorated. They are just about as excited as I am I think!

Vaughan started working on getting the thistles out of the chicken run. That’s a huge job. Some of them stand over our heads!

Today the plan is to get some more unpacking done. Also, if the weather holds, I want to start digging out those lilies in the front garden. They have taken over and it just looks messy. I need to get that cleaned out now, so that come spring I can start planting some nice perennials and get it looking fabulous!

I also have to take Adara in to register her at high school today. I really don’t want to, but I guess I must. 😦

That’s all for now. Hopefully the light will be good today to get some pics.

My Dream Come True

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, I picked up the keys to my dream house.

We decided to sell our current house early this summer. It sold really quickly which left us in a position of needing to find something very quickly. It was a long stressfuly summer of finding a place and losing it to being outbid by someone else.

Finally, though, on August 3, we found our home. It’s a two story, Victorian brick situated on a hill on 2.19 acres. It’s been almost fully renovated inside, with a brand new kitchen, but still keeping all the original doors and woodwork. It’s stunningly beautiful. And my dream house to boot.

I’ll be adding some photo’s soon. I’ll be using this blog to document our change in lifestyle. Our goal is to simplify our lives and bring back some of the old ways of doing things. We want to teach our children to appreciate what God has given us and learn how to live a simple life. It’s going to be tough, I know that. We’ve lived a totally different sort of life so far. But, with God’s help and Grace, we can do it!

The first thing, though, is to get moved in. We have 2 weeks to slowly move everything over. We’ve already done some, but there is so much more to do.

We’re going to the house today, and I will take some pictures to share.

I’ll be looking for recipes for canning, cleaning and cooking frugally. I’ll also be looking for any and all homesteading tips that I can find. So, if you have one, click on the contact me link and send me an email! I’ll post all the great tips I receive with credit to the sender.

Check back soon. I’ll be adding some photo’s for you to see.
