Cleaning Tips

Do you have a frugal cleaning tip to share? Click on the contact me link and send it to me. I’ll put it here with full credit to you!

From Elaine: I use drops of Grapefuitseed Extract in my dishwater for disinfectant (where Mom would have used Clorox)

From Savannah: I like to spray my whole tub with the foaming Scrubbing Bubbles. I let it sit overnight and when I take my morning shower the whole tub is clean. I’ll wipe down the sides afterwards and it’s so much easier than the old way (Ajax and a sponge). I’ve also heard that putting denture tabs in the tub works, but I haven’t tried that yet.

From BlackStar: Getting rid of water marks on car/truck upholstery*:
Mix 2-4 tablespoons of white vinegar with 1 quart of distilled water.
Gently wipe the water mark.  Let air dry.
*As with any cleaner, try this on a small patch first.
This worked like a charm!  And the vinegar smell does not linger.

  1. Nice and usefull post, thanks, this is one for my bookmarks!

  2. To go along with being frugal with your dishwasher – mix equal parts of Borax and Washing Soda (not baking soda – both can be found in the laundry aisle) and use about 2 teaspoons to wash a full load of dishes. If you have hard water, use plain vinegar in the rinse compartment. This homeade dishwasher soap works best if you rinse your dishes a bit before you fill your dishwasher.
